What is Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a manual and superficial exfoliating or skin resurfacing procedure. Also known as Epi-blading, Derma-blading or Epidermal leveling, it is the most affordable skin resurfacing treatment. Dermaplaning utilises a single use, disposable and sterile surgical scalpel to gently “shave & scrape” away the dead and damaged surface skin cells.
When the outer-most layer of dead skin is removed a stimulated rejuvenation effect takes place. This achieves a more youthful appearance immediately and continues over time. In addition, a secondary benefit of Dermaplaning is the removal of annoying vellus hair or “peach fuzz” as it is also commonly called.
What are the benefits of Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is an economical way to gradually resurface your skin. Below are some of the benefits you can achieve from regular monthly dermaplaning facials.
• Achieve a deeper penetration of anti-aging products.
• Remove the fine vellus hair or peach fuzz.
• Gain a smoother and firmer skin over time.
• Safely remove layers of dulling dead skin cells.
• Reduce the irregular appearance of acne scars.
• Refine pores and fine lines.
• Gentle enough for most skin types.
• Achieve instantly hydrated and radiant skin.
Are there any side effects of Dermaplaning?
In general, there are no side effects since Dermaplaning is a non-invasive skin resurfacing treatment. However, after treatment, the skin may appear a little pink for a few hours.
You may also experience some tightness, dryness and perhaps skin peeling within 5 to 7 days after the treatment. If you are new to Dermaplaning, do not be concerned if this happens. It is only the skin’s natural exfoliating process kicking in. This process will remove the excessive amount of dead skin cells that are still present on the surface.
There are some individuals who should avoid Dermaplaning as their skin may be too reactive to tolerate the increased stimulation. If you are prone to hives or red bumps after exfoliation or waxing, it may be advisable to seek medical advise and take an anti-histamine prior to treatment. For more information on this and other precautions please feel free to contact us.

Can I wear makeup after my Dermaplaning?
Yes, you can wear makeup after your Dermaplaning treatment. You will need a makeup that is natural or mineral based, preferrably a liquid with Hyaluronic Acid to protect and hydrate the skin. In general you should avoid chemical based makeup as it will only clog and suffocate your skin. Chemical based makeup and artificial fragrance is going to interfere with your skins recovery, so opt for natural, organic and mineral based options.
Your home care products need to support the anti-aging rejuvenation process to restore your skin’s youthful glow. Ask your practitioner which makeup and skincare lines are best to treat and enhance your new found skin glow.
Is Dermaplaning good for acne skin?
Dermaplaning is not recommended for active acne. However, it is great for resurfacing acne scarring. If you have active acne you will need to get it under control first. Skin Peels, Inner Health, Laser Acne Therapy and LED are the first steps to kick acne to the curb. Dermaplaning is then the next step to smooth out and repair any acne scarring.
Is Dermaplaning better than Microdermabrasion?
While Microdermabrasion and Dermaplaning are both abrasive exfoliating methods, Dermaplaning is the better option. There are two main differences between these forms of exfoliation.
1). Dermplaning will remove up to 2x times more dead skin cells than microdermabrasion.
2). Dermaplaning removes the vellus hair (“peach fuzz”) to leave the skin smooth and hair free while microdermabrasion will not.
