Men’s skin needs TLC too.
Although men can get away with the rugged look, they still need to show a level of self respect to be taken seriously in the corporate world and in other industries. When sitting in meetings for hours each week you can guarantee there will be some that not only notice but also get distracted by the acne, scarring and un-groomed beards. Manscaping doesn’t need to be time consuming. So here are a few simple tips to help you look your best without spending hours on your looks.
Shower Buddies : 70% of your grooming will happen in the shower. Choose a body and face wash that contains AHA’s or fruit acids. This will half the cleansing and exfoliating time and give your skin a fresher, smoother and more radiant appearance. Always double cleanse too!!! The first cleanse removes pollution and surface grime, the second cleanse cleans out the skin and pores. Here are some of my favorite shower buddies for men:
Dermalogica Medibac Skin Wash : A Salicylic acid, oil controlling & antibacterial foaming gel wash that comes in a 500ml pump bottle. It can easily be used on both face and body if you have an oily, acne prone skin. If you are allergic to aspirin avoid this wash as Salicylic acid is aspirin.
Dermalogica Ultimate Buffing Cloth : If you are prone to back acne, use this long exfoliating body cloth with your cleanser to keep your skin free from acne causing oil and bacterial build up.
ASAP Daily Exfoliating Facial Scrub : A glycolic acid based scrub that can be used both on face and body. This scrub gently removes dry, flaky and oily build up and is best to use on face and body twice a week to prevent breakouts, fade pigmentation plus smooth lines & scarring.
Hydration : The rest of your skin care regime will consist of inner and outer hydration and sun protection. Choose a day time facial lotion that controls shine & has SPF to protect your skin from the effects of sun damage and a night time moisturiser with antioxidants to repair and nourish your skin while you sleep.
Cosmedix Reflect : This would have to be my #1 seller for men. An all purpose face and body hydrating lotion, antioxidant repairer and SPF protection. As light as milk, in a spray bottle and non greasy. Ideal for protecting balding heads too. Yes you can use this moisturiser at night because it uses a natural sunscreen and not a chemical one, so no skin clogging here.
The Beauty Chef Hydration : Inner gut health is just as important as outer skin health. Add a spoon of this pleasant tasting pre-biotic and pro-biotic antioxidant drink to your morning juice or glass of water and transfer hydration straight to the skin from your daily nutritional intake. This supplement is really beneficial for maintaining skin hydration if you work in an air-conditioned or hot environment.
Aspect Probiotic Sleep Mask : After cleansing at night, apply a thin layer of this nutritional sleep mask. It will absorb right in, so don’t worry, you won’t have a scary white mask look at all.
Shaving : Skin shaving is a natural form of exfoliation that actually promotes collagen production for a younger looking skin. To make the most of this daily beauty routine you didn’t know your were doing, ensure you use non toxic shaving products and soothing gels that encourage skin repair and hydration.
Aspect Gold Every Day Cleanser : A gentle foaming cleanser with antibacterial properties. Delicate enough for even the most sensitive skins when shaving.
ASAP Soothing Gel : An anytime aloe vera skin soothing gel, use it post shaving to calm the skin and it doubles as a light weight hydrator and after sun skin soother too.
So this is just how easy it can be to look after your skin health. One more thing, make it a habit to de-stress with a monthly facial from your local facialist. Not only will this give your facialist a chance to pick up on any problems that may be arising with your skin, it will give you a much needed break to unwind and allow your mind and body to relax. You will be surprised at how well your performance improves when you take time out for some traditional R & R.
